Story
Kim (official name of the player character) receives their first Pokémon at the age of 16 in a little village called Snowfoot Town, together with their two childhood friends Maja and Luka. Maja is a more outgoing and social teenager who's itching to become an amazing Pokémon Trainer. This would make her the first professional trainer in her family. Luka is a more reserved teenager who prefers to go out camping in nature, with very little aspirations when it comes to Pokémon battling (in stark contrast to certain family members). The trio receives their Pokémon in the form of a package delivered at their doorstep, allowing them to choose between three starters offered to them by Professor Larix: Marroot, Pupyre and Rucky.
They've received instructions to meet Professor Larix at his lab in Draco City, one route away from Snowfoot Town. On the way there, they sneak into a nearby ruin as they can now venture deeper into it than they were previously allowed to. Disregarding the mysterious man looking for something, the three eventually stumble onto a locked door leading into a big tower with no other entrance. Luka, out of curiosity, uses the key he took from his father's desk -- and the door opens. Inside the tower, they find a humanoid Pokémon they had never seen before breathing heavily. It's clad in plates of armor and wields a sword, but the young adults have no time to admire it; the Pokémon sees the way out, and charges at them! Electricity crackles in the air as the Pokémon attacks.
"Olmander, catch it!" Suddenly an Olmander jumps in front of our protagonists, pushing the aggressive monster back. It's the mysterious man from earlier! His interjection is short-lived as the raging knight forces Olmander out of the way and escapes his prison. The mysterious man curses and returns Olmander to its ball. "Are you alright?" he asks. After confirming you're safe from harm, he sprints out to chase down the enigmatic Pokémon.
Shocked and dazed, Kim, Maja and Luka exit the ruins, and are met with a concerned Professor Larix who had expected them to show up far earlier. He escorts them to his lab, where Maja explains what had just happened. The professor is surprised, but his other guest is much more concerned: Champion Klementine, a 48 year old woman who has been Kirstria's champion since the end of the war. They had entrusted the key to Luka's father for safekeeping, but now the legendary pokémon locked in the tower has escaped. Still, they forgive Luka and wishes you well on your travels. Having received your Pokédex from the professor, you can now finally start your journey.
