Welcome to the Kirstria region!

My name is just_a_husk (or Husk, for short) and welcome to the official website for the unofficial Pokémon fangame: Six Stars! This fakemon fangame is unlike any you've seen before, as the game engine itself is being made from scratch in C++, using the open-source Raylib library. It features the same artstyle as Pokémon Black & White Version. As development continues, this site will likewise continue to be updated with more news. Right now it's fairly empty, but every week a new fakemon is revealed in the Pokédex, so stay tuned!

I refuse to profit off of the Pokémon IP & trademark, no money will be made off of the game or via this website.

About Six Stars

In Six Stars, you will travel across the Kirstria region. This region is based on Slovenia and Croatia, two countries near and dear to my heart.

After a week-long trip through both countries, I fell in love with them, their history and their people. It helps that I have multiple Slovenian & Croatian friends, one of which I actually met in real life during said trip. Through this game, I want to let people explore the underappreciated culture, landscapes and cities that these lands have to offer.

Six Stars is not a difficulty fangame/romhack. Given that my favorite Pokémon games are Black 2 and White 2, this game is an attempt to recreate the magic of those games in the eyes of young me. I'm making a serious and conscious effort to make it a fun and enjoyable experience above all for as many fans of the series as possible.

Do YOU want to help work on Six Stars?

Good news is, you can! Bad news is, there are some conditions. If and only if you feel confident in your skills, know you adhere to the criteria listed below and are willing to contribute a not insignificant amount of time to the project (I'm very loose with my deadlines and try to keep the workload low, but still, expect a somewhat continuous workload), then you can contact me on my discord account (just_a_husk) or on any of the platforms I'm on (see the Credits tab). All intra-team communication is done via a Discord server.

Another note: I use my social media accounts to share progress and snippets from the game. I do this with credit to my team members and with Nightshade applied to all images, but keep that in mind in case you don't want your work to end up on there. If you still want to work on the game despite that, then I will agree to not showing off your work there. I will, however, post stuff on this website.

Final note: NO GENERATIVE AI. No AI chatbots, no AI sound generators, no AI music generators, no AI image generators, no "little help"s, no "but"s, absolutely NONE of that. If you use that stuff, I don't even want you to touch my game, my profiles or my website.

Pixel Art

Pixel art is used for the game's UI, overworld sprites, tileset, model textures and of course the fakemon sprites. We're going for a gen 5 type of style, so the style of the Pokémon Black & White games and their sequels. If you want to contribute to the pixel art of the project, you must be able to reproduce that type of style. Of course it doesn't have to be a perfect approximation, but it's a quality assurance metric: if for example you've worked on gen 4 style fangames or ROM hacks before and you can make pixel art in that style, then that suffices as well.

Music

I'm really passionate about music. At this moment we only have a collection of (possibly) free to use remixes of existing music to serve as the game's soundtrack. Since the engine is custom, the sound files should be mp3 files. I'd like to experiment with MIDI and soundfonts (specifically sf2 files) too, but I'd have to code a MIDI player too for that, so that's definitely not set in stone yet. Thematically, we are looking for fast-paced, intense music for the boss battles, playful battle music for the minor battles, and slower, calming music for most of the overworld themes. I don't have a specific skill metric for music and have to play it by ear, so if you want to help this project, contact me and send me some mp3 files of your songs and/or remixes!

Sound Design

I of course don't mean the music again. I'm talking about Pokémon/Fakemon cries and SFX for the overworld, UI, battles, moves and more. This is a very niche yet incredibly important part of video games that most fangames and ROM hacks don't spend that much time on. If you can and are willing to help us in this regard, please contact me as soon as you can.

Overworld Models

Mainly talking about stuff like cliff edges, houses, bridges, etc. here. Think of the 3D models used in Pokémon Black & White. They're very low-poly and with pixel art textures, so if you can work with that, show me some of your work!

Moveset Design

Lots and lots of fakemon, so lots and lots of movesets as well. Sorting through all possible moves to give each fakemon and making the level-up movesets is a lot of work. Help would be appreciated here, but note that it is pretty boring and time-consuming.

Teams Design

The creation of NPC's Pokémon teams. The grand majority will be pretty normal stuff, so just a lot of work. Only for Challenge mode will we need some more competitively viable teams to work with.
